  1. Admit It

“Admit It” is what I wish I could’ve said to someone that I was watching fall in love with me, when I knew I didn’t feel the same. It’s an honest conversation with myself and him; admitting my faults and hesitations when it comes to love. I’m sorry I let it get this far and that I let you think I was the one. “Pardon my seduction, I’ll pardon your assumptions”.

I made “Admit It” in Atlanta with my friends Major and Deion. Major and I were in the kitchen making breakfast when Deion played us the beat, which he had made the night before. While major was cutting up some veggies, he started free styling the melody with words making fun of my manager, Syd, for having a Samsung instead of an iPhone. There’s actually a video of it somewhere! Later that night we rewatched the video and I had heard him say the words “admit it”, which is when I came up with the first line in the song, “I’ll admit it, I wouldn’t know love if I was in it”. As soon as I said it, the three of us fell in love with the concept and could SO relate…It was one of those songs that wrote itself because we were just being so honest.

Lyrics

I’ll admit it (yeah)
I wouldn’t know love if I was in it (hey yeah)
And I could never trust no commitment, no
Can’t love you more than myself, I’ll admit it
Be the first one to admit it

Oh
I’ve learned feelings always come and go
When I’m holding on I might just let go
So if you’re falling for me, better land slow
Better land slow

Slow down you wilin’
What if it’s just me, not the timing?
What if I’m just rough, not a diamond?
What if what doesn’t kill you, still leaves you crying?
What if protecting hearts would start with me lying?

I never shoulda did that fuck shit
I can be so destructive
I don’t know how you love being,
Stuck with my dysfunction
I woulda jumped ship
Long before we jumped in
Pardon my seduction
I’ll pardon your assumptions

And I’ll admit it (yeah)
I wouldn’t know love if I was in it (hey yeah)
And I could never trust no commitment, no
Can’t love you more than myself, I’ll admit it
Be the first one to admit it

Oh
I’ve learned feelings always come and go
When I’m holding on I might just let go
So if you’re falling for me, better land slow
Better land slow

You say I’m a treasure
You want me forever
But I just don’t feel it, no
Swear you could do better
With someone who’s there for you
I’m just to selfish to care for you
But baby I’m scared for you

I never shoulda did that fuck shit
I can be so destructive
I don’t know how you love being,
Stuck with my dysfunction
I woulda jumped ship
Long before we jumped in
Pardon my seduction
I’ll pardon your assumptions

But I’ll admit it
I wouldn’t know love if I was in it
And I could never trust no commitment, no
Can’t love you more than myself, I’ll admit it
Be the first one to admit it

Oh
I’ve learned feelings always come and go
When I’m holding on I might just let go
So if you’re falling for me, better land slow
Better land slow
(Yeah)

Fuck shit
Destructive
Love being
Dysfunction
Fuck shit
Destructive
Love being…
